The many hairstyles of Cooper

I have a lot of blog catching up to do. But since I have a sick babe right now that is thankfully sleeping at the moment I'll have to keep it divide it up. Today you get the many hairstyles of Cooper.

So the Coop-Dog has had many hair styles throughout his little life. He was born with this full head of dark hair. I miss that hair.

Then there was the receding hair line or should we say cul-de-sacs. Still cute.
And then.... The Mullet. Enough said.

And the balding look...Previously we just let his hair do what it want. Then we decided to grab some clippers and take action.
Before

AfterA much improved look I must say. hmm love that little boy.

Also, are you thinking of getting any pictures taken?

Busy Summer

I can't believe the last time I wrote was when Cooper was 4 months. He's six months now! Time goes by so quickly. We've been very busy in the Schmutz house lately.
About a week ago Colin's parents left to serve as mission president and "mission mother" in the Philippines. We were busy getting in all the time that we could with the family before they left. We are going to miss them so much but we are so excited for them and the great experience they will have. I can't wait till Christmas when we get to go visit! So right as they left we moved into their house. We are holding down the fort here the whole three years they are gone. It is quite the upgrade from our little tiny house. I don't even know what to do with all the space I have now.
I do have to give a little shout out to our first house though. I miss it! It was the first place we lived when we got married. It was the home we brought Cooper home to. We spent two plus years there and I'd grown to love that little house in that ghetto neighborhood. Luckily my little sister is living in it for the time being so we can go and visit.
So we are unpacking boxes and settling in here. another thing that is keeping me busy is Cooper. He is mobile people! He discovered rolling one day and is now on the go. Who knew rolling could be such an effective way of getting around? He acts like he wants to crawl and I wouldn't mind at all if he waited awhile to do that. This little guy already keeps me on my toes. Oh and he is allergic to eggs. Don't ask how we found that one out but it was dramatic experience for me (probably not as much for him). We're all good now.
In our spare time we are just trying to live up summer before Colin goes back to school. Swimming, BBQing, and hanging out.
Tomorrow me and Cooper are of the California for a little Vacay and a wedding so I better start packing. Here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure because we all know a post without pictures is boring. This ones cracks me up. This is Cooper and his cousin Bennett. Got to love those faces.

4 months (a little late)

Cooper is 4 1/2 months old now. Wow that went fast! A couple weeks ago I took him in for his 4 month appointment. We went to a new doctor at the BYU Student Health Center since our insurance has changed. Let's just say I really miss Cooper's old doctor. When they weighed him he weighed 14 lbs. When I told the doctor that at his two 2 month appointment he weighed 12 lbs she acted a little concerned that he only gained 2 lbs over the last 2 months. He looks nice and fat to me but she wanted him a little fatter. So we are working on plumping this guy up with a little extra formula. I think he is fattening up nicely. Other then that he looks perfect. Here is some of what Cooper is up to now a days.
  • He is balding. Sad I know. He has lost pretty much all his hair on the sides but is keeping his long hair in the back of his head and on the top so he totally has a mullet. Hey mullets are coming back in style right?
  • He is grabbing at everything, including my hair. It's getting much harder to do stuff while he's in my lap because he wants to grab at whatever I have.
  • He is such a giggler. I love making this boy laugh. It's music to my ears.
  • He is going to roll over any day now. He is pro at the tummy to back but can't quite make the push from back to tummy but I see it happening any time now.
  • I think Cooper is quite the momma's boy. Apparently when I leave him with Colin he cries. He whines when I leave the room and knows how to get my attention. Some ways I really don't like this but somehow I secretly like it too.
  • He has a fascination with his tongue. It's constantly sticking out. Seriously, for hours at a time.
  • He is a snuggler. mmm I love me some Cooper snuggle time.
  • He has attempted rice cereal, it was actually quite funny. I took a video of it to show Colin so have a look if you like...

Mullet!

My First Project

I have attempted my first sewing project on my new sewing machine. I thought I would start with something quite simple like a pillow. Well it took my a lot longer then I thought it would. Let's just say I had to figure out my sewing machine, but I think the next project will go much faster. It definitely isn't perfect but it's just for me so I don't care.

You can find the tutorial here.

I'm on the lookout for some more fun projects. If you know any fun craft blogs or DIY sites feel free to pass on the wisdom.

The best two weeks of the year

Hello all you bloggers out there it's been awhile. Much has happened and I keep thinking I should blog it out but I just don't. So the babe is sleeping I'm taking a break from folding laundry (hate it) and letting you know what's been going on at the Schmutz house.

So it just so happens that our anniversary, my birthday, and Mother's day all follow within two weeks of each other. Lucky for me and lucky for Colin. That's kind of a big job for the man, but he did pretty dang good.

Our anniversary was on April 25th.I can't believe it's been two years since this day...

I think Colin may have initially forgotten it. He left for work while I was still in bed. When he kissed me goodbye he didn't say anything about it. I called him after I got up to tell him happy anniversary and I'm fairly certain I caught him off guard but he recovered well becaus
e a few hours later flowers arrived at my door. Nice move huh?

We left the kiddo with my sister that night and went out for a nice sushi (my fav) dinner. It was so nice to spent time together just the two of us. Then we went to the Sweet Tooth Fairy for some delicious cupcakes. We told the man there that it was our first time so
he gave us two cupcakes and a few cake bites for free! Who does that anymore?! and I must say if you have never been there you must go right now. Like now.... or after you read this! It's so freaking good. Anyways, I have to do a shout of to the hubby. Two years ago I had no idea what I was in for. Good thing marriage has been so much more fun and rewarding then I could have imaged. Love you baby!

So a week an half later it was my birthday. He woke me up at midnight to tell me happy birthday but I was so out of it I didn't appreciate it until later. I told Colin that I wanted a sewing machine for my birthday and he told me that wa
s probably too expensive. I was bummed but I had accepted that I wasn't getting it. But boy did he trick me. When I got up that morning and went out to the front room this was stilling on the coffee table... He says that it's my anniversary, birthday, and Mother's Day present combined. That is fine with me! I'm so excited to get this thing going and to make some stuff. Since becoming a stay at home mom I've found myself needing some "me" time. So I'm trying to develop some of my hobbies. This will be perfect.

The rest of the day was great too. My husband spoiled me and we hung out all day and went out to dinner and a movie that night. By the way, I turned 23. Oh man I'm so old.

Mother's Day was fabulous as well. I think Colin was sick of spoiling me at this point but whatever. We had to speak in church. boo. I'm so glad that is over with! But I have to mention since this was my first mothers day, I am so happy to be a Mother! It is hard and exhausting. It is a full time j
ob but it is so rewarding. I love my little guy more than words can express. It has given me a small amount of understanding how much God loves his children. I would do absolutely anything for him. this little guy has stolen my heart and I don't think I'm getting it back. I'm okay with that.

Here is some pictures from our St. George trip a few weeks. Purely for your enjoyment. Cooper went on his first hike and his first swim.

(I just added this one because I think it's funny they are both closing their eyes)

Baby Model?

Are you kidding me right now?
Look at this little boy's face. Can you not tell me that's he's adorable?
Looking at that cute smiling face makes me not even mind all the crying and poopy diapers. Okay so it still bothers me sometimes, but seriously he gives me that signature open mouth smile whenever I change a poopy diaper. Like he thinks it's funny that I have to wipe his bum.
Anyways,
My lovely friend Kristin Gaul was kind enough to come photography my little Cooper Trooper.
He was a Champ. Let's just say this guy knows how to work it in front of the camera.

For some more of the pictures you can go to her blog here.
And you are in luck because for the rest of the month if you book a newborn/baby or toddler session with her you get 50% off the sitting fee.

Cooper's blessing day and other stuff

I am going to try to make a real effort to post more often. I honestly enjoy blogging so I don't know why I don't do it more often. Oh, maybe it's because it takes effort and sometimes I'm lazy. But, like I said, I am going to be better.

So Coop Dog went in for his two month appointment last week and guess what? He grew 3 inches, putting him in the 68th percentile for his length! I get that a lot of people probably don't care about this kind of stuff. Honestly, I didn't really care when other people gave these kind of facts before I had a baby. But, as a parent this stuff is really exciting for us. So guess what? You can just stop reading this now if this is boring to you. Okay if you are still reading you may be interested to know he is over 12 lbs now as well. My baby is getting so big. I'm loving his double chin and his fattening thighs. I could kiss them all day long!

We blessed Cooper this last Sunday. We decided to do it at my parents house and I really liked it. It was more intimate and special to just have our family and friends there. Colin did absolutely amazing for a new daddy and I will never forget the special things said in that blessing. I know it was a very special experience for Colin too. I am so lucky to have not only a great husband but he's also just a great daddy to our son. Oh how I love these boys of mine.

Our friend Kim was nice enough to take some pictures of Cooper. Here is some of those pics and also some other cute pictures I unprofessionally took of the kiddo.

Caution: there may be some baby nudity. I had to do the bath tub shot. It's just too cute. Cooper may hate me for it in about 15 years but oh well.
